ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Terravanta delivered Electrical Engineering and Field Support Services for Torrance Unified School District’s districtwide HVAC assessment, helping develop a long-term strategy to replace natural gas heating with all-electric heating and cooling systems across 34 campuses. The project evaluated existing electrical service capacity against proposed improvements to determine feasibility, scope, and associated costs, while supporting broader sustainability goals by reducing greenhouse-gas emissions and eliminating on-site fossil-fuel combustion.

COMMUNITY BENEFITS

This project provides many benefits to the overall community. Here are a few examples of the community benefits provided:

  • Reduced Greenhouse Gas Emissions: Supports district and community sustainability goals by transitioning from natural gas heating systems to all-electric heating and cooling technologies.
  • Improved Air Quality: Eliminates on-site fossil fuel combustion, reducing air pollutants associated with natural gas use and creating healthier learning environments for students and staff.
  • Safer, Healthier Schools: Removes combustion-based equipment from school campuses, minimizing exposure to emissions and supporting occupant health and well-being.
  • Energy Resilience and Sustainability: Establishes a long-term roadmap for modern, efficient building systems that support future electrification and clean energy initiatives.
  • Cost-Informed Capital Planning: Provides the District with a comprehensive assessment of electrical infrastructure capacity and upgrade needs to support strategic facility investments across 34 campuses.
  • Future-Ready Educational Facilities: Positions school sites to meet evolving energy, environmental, and regulatory requirements while supporting long-term operational efficiency.
