ABOUT THIS PROJECT
Terravanta is providing project / construction management, project controls and engineering support of MVGS Tube Tie Clamps at U3A-3B-4A-4B, HRSG Exhaust Duct Liner U4A-4B, HRSG Upper Crawl Space 1 / 2 access door and staircase access U3A-3B-4A-4B, and Mainstream (501) Stop Valve Replacement at U3A. These four projects (valued at $10 million total) are part of the planned 2025 spring outage at 1.2 GW MVGS (natural gas combined cycle steam turbines) to replace and/or upgrade heat recovery steam generator (HRSG) components. This work is to extend the components projected life cycle from 10 to 20 years due to changing from constant baseload generation to cyclic operations as baseload power is brought online periodically when renewable energy (solar / wind / hydroelectric / geothermal) is not at peak generation capacity to support baseload demand. This work requires management of various construction tasks, cost estimating and scheduling, coordination with MP&E engineering support and numerous vendors, updating SCE Quad cost controls, and implementing various P6 scheduling milestones to make sure all projects are safely completed on time and on budget.
COMMUNITY BENEFITS
Terravanta’ s work at MVGS ensures that SCE customers have reliable, cost-effective power that helps the state (CAISO) meet its baseload energy requirements for SCE’s 50,000 square mile (sq-mi) service area as well as adjacent PG&E’s 86,000 sq-mi and SDG&E’s 35,000 sq-mi service areas.
Mentorship / Internship Opportunities
Mechanical engineering candidates may benefit from learning how a natural gas combine cycle steam turbine operates.
