ABOUT THIS PROJECT

This project is part of the Strategy Division for Catalina Island and the Big Creek hydroelectric complex (972 MW total power generation capacity). The Big Creek hydroelectric complex consists of Portal Powerhouse (PH) (10 MW), PH 1 (82 MW), Eastwood PH (200 MW + energy storage), PH 2 (67 MW), PH 2A (98 MW), PH 8 (64 MW), Mammoth PH (187 MW), PH 3 (64 MW) and PH 4 (200 MW). This project supports Southern California Edison’s (SCE) energy strategy by coordinating and aligning multiple energy (power generation / energy storage) and infrastructure projects (dams / reservoirs / grid rakes / large diameter water valves / pipelines / penstocks / desalination / transmission and distribution) into a unified program.

COMMUNITY BENEFITS

The project supports sustainable energy initiatives and strengthens energy infrastructure for Catalina Island and surrounding communities.
